Landsturm Posted 26 May , 2009 Share Posted 26 May , 2009 Not "Four Feathers", this is WW1 period. And if you want a difficult one, I can give you a difficult one as bonus... Tip: portrays 1918 and not in Russia.
ericthornton Posted 28 May , 2009 Share Posted 28 May , 2009 I'm struggling too. It looks like desert in the background and the only WW1 films I can think of in that theatre are the Lighthorsemen and Lawrence of Arabia but the photo is B & W? An old B & W film with pith helmets was 'Tell England' but that was Gallipoli not the desert? I'm now clutching at straws......There was also a scene in 'Gallipoli' where the men were on a training exercise in the desert, but again the photo is B & W so it doesn't fit? After all that waffle I'm in the same boat as Mike...haven't a clue. ET
stoj22 Posted 28 May , 2009 Author Share Posted 28 May , 2009 Is the desert one "The Lost Patrol" starring Frankenstein's monster? In the latest picture..........are the red and white armbands significant I wonder? Steve.
Landsturm Posted 29 May , 2009 Share Posted 29 May , 2009 Correct. "The Lost Patrol" it is... and Boris "Monster" Karloff goes insane in the oasis. Need more tips for the second picture? I give you two names; Väinö Linna and Edvin Laine.

Landsturm Posted 30 May , 2009 Share Posted 30 May , 2009 "Unknown soldier" (Finn. Tuntematon Sotilas) deals with the Continuation War 1941-1944. OK, one more wrong guess, and I'll reveal the correct answer.
stoj22 Posted 30 May , 2009 Author Share Posted 30 May , 2009 I found this one..................it's not...............is it?

Landsturm Posted 31 May , 2009 Share Posted 31 May , 2009 Ponte Fractus; no. That's about opening battles in Serbia 1914. By the way, a good movie, seen it online with subtitles. Ok, I admit mine was a tough one, it's Täällä Pohjantähden Alla directed by Edvin Laine, from the novel trilogy by Väinö Linna ( link ). The movie streches over decades but culminates in the Finnish Civil War (January-May 1918). What makes this qualified for our WW1 based thread is the fact that there were also Russians (obviously on the Reds side) and German (on the side of the Whites) fighting, they are also portrayed in the film. Oh, about Your pic. My guess would be Company K...
stoj22 Posted 31 May , 2009 Author Share Posted 31 May , 2009 It sure was a tricky one Landsturm......mind you I think all the easy ones have been done!!! Paul Ormerod Posted 1 June , 2009 Share Posted 1 June , 2009 I wondered about the Wilfred Owen documentary, but didn't remember it having any reconstructions in it. Good one. Paul
Paul Ormerod Posted 1 June , 2009 Share Posted 1 June , 2009 You could describe this as a bit of a cheat as well. Not a First World War film, but the scene is set in the First World War and the programme was on a BBC channel within the past two weeks. Any ideas? Paul Ormerod Posted 2 June , 2009 Share Posted 2 June , 2009 Given the Askaris my initial thought was The African Queen. I'm not sure that's right though, and think this could be Shout at the Devil. Paul
