Does anyone on the Forum have a Copy of the B/W Film Ja,accuse.i think this is the title..one of the Scenes contains an eyrie scene of dead Poilus rising from their graves and returning to accuse Wives Girlfriends etc,etc,i am sure that it was film using real French Soldiers of the Time.If anyone has a Copy i would be more than willing to pay Top Dollar or to give them a Copy of any titles that i have in my Archive.

Another shot from La Grande Illusion.

It would appear that there are two versions of Abel Gance's J'Accuse. In the 1919 version the dead soldiers rise from the grave to haunt the living, who they feel to be unworthy of their sacrificies.

A remake was made in 1937, where dead soldiers rise again, but this time to warn prophetically of a coming war.

A DVD of the 1919 version is available on Amazon.

I found you a harder one.

This isnt some Dorset production either...film cost millions to make and was intended for cinema not TV.

Not sure about the availability of the film itself, but its significance is discussed at length by Jay Winter in his book 'Sites of Memory, Sites of Mourning; The Great War in European Cultural History'....well worth a read! Review here;
