Hi,

I am new to this forum so please forgive if i have posted this in the wrong place.

I need help.

I am looking for the casualty record for my Grandfather - Leonard Crouchman.  Can anyone help if they have come across his name - (he was wounded twice - once in the arm ? on the Somme and losing an eye at Passchendaele).

If not, i would appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction on where i need to look.

many thanks, Jan

You would be better to start a new thread about him in Soldiers and their Units. More people would see it and try to help. There only seems to be one Leonard Crouchman. Private in the York and Lancaster Regiment no 63722 and transferred to the Labour Corps no 682980. No service or pension records seem to survive. According to The Silver War Badge Rolls he enlisted on 01/03/1916 and was discharged (sickness) on 24/03/1919. The Silver War Badge was issued to men discharged with honour due to wounds or sickness.

If you start a thread please show what info you have e g where he was from, I'm sure someone will help.

Brian

This 1916 list has escaped my attention for the past three years, H 7469 - France - April 1916.

Mainly infantry but four REs. Two Tunnellers 147674 Frederick Knight and 136355 Joseph Crane. FMP has a hospital admission record for 136355 J Crane in MH 106/74 but not in MH 106/1440 which is where I found him. There are also two Special Brigade men 128874 Robert Tunstall and 128897 Samuel Hughes, both ex 13 South Lancashire Regt.

Difficult to read but it is clearer in the service record of 17/30079 George Herbert, Cheshire Regt (of Liverpool) where it can be found. His record appears to be duplicated on Ancestry with more in one than in the other but the list can be found under surnames index HER and page 5775/42314.
