Thought I'd add this one as it's an Egyptian Force Casualty List, No. E 11127 dated circa 12/11/1917. Admitted  43 Stationary Hospital, El, Arish. Not sure if E Lists have come up before.

List H A 13742. September 1917, France.

A lot of these lists have mistakes in names and/or Units e.g. 85926 Spr Birmingham E on this list is actually 85926 Edgar Burningham. For this reason corroboration is required.

I found this list some time ago. No. 24890, No. 20266 & 20267 Cont. Date of admissions 10/5/1915. As you can see it's a list of corrections to previous lists. In fact all 40 men have some sort of correction to name/number/rank/unit and a fair few are untraceable.

FMP have now put on line the surviving medical registers. We re all going to be busy... 670,000 casualties. A lot of bad teeth during WW1 by the looks of it.

This is the first HW list I have seen, HW 863 October 1917 - France.

710517 Gnr Harris is not on my Bolton Artillery index. EDIT He is on the ROH for Bolton Parish Church as 3 East Lancs Brigade and I have now included him. He is also named on HW 822 on p 54.

Brian. Apologies for butting in. But I’m trying to find a Casualty list  for Gnr.  Edward Ryan 1026254 Royal Field Artillery later Royal Garrison Artillery  224704 who we know has a wound stripe. If you could point me in a direction I would appreciate it. Thank you.

MRICs and Rolls have him as 99787 Dvr RFA and 224704 Gnr RGA. He disembarked in France on 12/09/1915. I checked the numbers on FMP but there were no hits with his name. There are a number of E Ryans under British Army Service Records (which is where you find these casualty lists, among other documents). You will notice that there are 34 previous pages to this thread and most of the lists that I have posted with Royal Engineers also show sick or wounded RFA/RGA men. I have only indexed the RE names so you might wish to double check. It is possible that an Artillery expert might have indexed the names. There are also some Gunners on the partial lists that I have posted in "Royal Engineers Sick and Wounded 1916" in the Soldiers Forum. I have found names and numbers on these lists that are not on FMP so do not give up. There may well be a report of his wound, sometimes with a photograph, in the local newspaper for where his next of kin lived. Most local library History Centres have indexed the soldiers names so it is worth trying. I will try to find out which Unit he went to France with.

Brian thank you so much for this. I have gone through all your 34 pages but I will go back through them just in case I missed him. Thanks for your help.

On the BW&V Medal rolls there is some confusion i.e two men with the same number. I checked from 99780 Michael O'Byrne to 99791 Horace Tomlinson. According to the Register of Soldiers Effects the two men who died in 1915, 99784 Frank W Tasker, k in a 26/11/1915 and 99789 Charles Thorpe d 18/10/1915 in hospital in Bristol, were both serving with C/47 Brigade RFA. Another man on the page 99787 Leslie J Turner, k in a 01/10/1918 was serving with 183 Brigade.

In the WDs for 47 Brigade there are nominal rolls of the Batteries and the Ammunition Columns which are dated December 1915 but I could not find 99787 Dvr E Ryan.

99782 James Tyler (on the Medal Rolls) is on the 47 Brigade NR as is the aforementioned 99787 L Turner (so he must have moved to 183 Brigade later).

So three men on that page were in 47 Brigade. It may be that since we have a 99787 in 47 Brigade then your 99787 went elsewhere.

I checked the WD of 46 Brigade RFA which also has NRs 1915 but no trace. Nothing in the WD of The Commander Royal Artillery 14 Div either.

You quoted 1026254 as one of Ryan's numbers. I see this comes from FMP's Royal Artillery attestations 1883-1942 and this has a date of enlistment of 16/6/1919. He then re-enlisted 17/2/1922 to 15/6/1931 and I think he enlisted again 9/10/1941. He was in REME 13/6/1944.

The 224704 number is his 'former service' 13/4/15 to 26/2/19 RGA. 99787 is also a 'former service' number for RFA reserve, no dates given.

This means there is probably a service record for him still with the MOD which can be purchased from them.

Thanks again  Brian. We have the MOD records for 1st and 2nd World War for all the above but no information on injury except he went to Woolwich to convalesce in December 1915. We are trying to find out what his wound was. I will let my friend Caroline take up the rest of the thread Brian as this man is her grandad.
