truthergw Posted 15 October , 2007 Share Posted 15 October , 2007 Gyrene, I have a book called Verdun by P C Ettighoffer which has that photo in it. The caption says that the men are a carrying party in the crater field at Verdun and also states that the mound in the background is Fort Douaumont. Rob Ruggenberg Posted 25 October , 2007 Share Posted 25 October , 2007 Most of them are stills from a movie, entitled Verdun, visions d’Histoire, made in 1927-1928 by Léon Poirier who, during the Great War, himself served in a French artillery division. To increase the authenticity of the reenactment, Poirier used French and German veterans to play the roles of the soldiers. Many scenes were filmed on former battlefields near Verdun. In one scene a pacifist intellectual dies in a shell hole - a real one, as the moviemakers found here the remains of a human arm with a ID tag, on which they could just make out: "Fulle... 1916". Regards, Rob I still don't know but it seems like this. Christina also made suggestions like that. I think you both would be right. The photo's are from a series of postcards from between the wars. Unfortunately the legends were cutted away but I have got the german texts from their back. Some photos really seem like taken from a post war film - especially those showing night-scenes.
