This partial list dates to June 1917. The Service Record of 65275 William Nicol Fyfe (not Fife) records that he sustained a GSW to the arm on 08/06/1917 and the Service Record of 112057 Bertram Goddard records that he served in France until 10/06/1917.

I have Forum Member Dink 999 to thank for bringing this list to my notice. It is in the Service Record of 8015 Edward Herd DOW (WR) Regt. It is dated September 1916.

99808 Spr Joseph Winskill was an original County Palatine RE man. Like my gf, who also enlisted into the CPRE, he has no 1914-15 Star and the only snippet I had about him was that he was named in the Times OCL 14/10/1916 under RE wounded.

Another one from Dink 999. It dates to January 1917 which is when 167412 Spr Richard Brown Day was admitted to hospital for one day. He was at No 4 GBD at the time.

128480 on the MRICs and Medal Rolls is Pnr Simon Pennor but the initial on this list would appear to be J.

EDIT: Dates to November 1916.

The WDs of 234 FC (39 Div) name other ranks. The correct number for Pnr Samuel Johnson is 131397. He is named in the WD 23/11/1916 as follows:

"131397 Pnr S Johnson and 131545 Pnr J Slater to hospital suffering from influenza and scabies respectively"

The correct number for Cpl Frederick W Gutteridge is 87332.

Not a great copy. The ceiling has collapsed in my local library meaning that I can't use the scanner. This partial list dates to October 1917. The Service Record of 211238 Dvr R Aspin shows that he was admitted to hospital on 03/10/1917. He was sent back to England.

I include 1917 lists if they show any Special Company men (196049 Pnr H Parker).

Still finding them. One more for my RE library. It dates to November 1916. 2132 G Shearn is named in the Times OCL 04/01/1917 under RE wounded. The Service records for Ralph Cary (not Carey), John Denford and William Wyatt all show hospital admissions in that month.

As a test run for my next project I noted down the RE names and service numbers in the first four Hospital Admissions Books for 2 GH Havre in January 1916 i.e. MH 106/917, 918, 919 and 920 in order to put the service numbers through FMP to see if they were all shown with a hospital admission. In all I found 25 numbers which I could not find on FMP with a hospital admission reference for any of these four books. I am not quite used to navigating FMP yet and they may well be there under a name check but there are clearly some omissions. This gives me some hope that I may yet find my RE gf in one of these books. FMP has digitised them although they have not yet been digitised by TNA. I clearly have a lot more work to do.

What a great source MH 106 is for identifying Units, and well done to FMP for making them available. I trawled through some a few years ago at Kew. A pity only a representative sample remain.

I'm only up to page 3 on this thread yet as I try to date the posts. I think I did date most of the later posts. I will get round to it. I shredded all my hard copy half lists some years ago when my RE research had gone as far as it could.

I have tried to change the name of this thread that I started in 2016 to Partial Casualty Lists but I can not. The lists are not only RE but many name other Corps, in particular RFA / RGA.

The idea is to make it a repository for the part casualty lists that turn up. I have dated all the posts on the thread and in doing so have found three more lists. The list starting 73182 Cpl Pretty, H A dates to January 1917 and the list starting 224918 Pnr Coe, S dates to October 1917.

EDIT: Here is one to start off with. 11126 Angus, A 2 RSF is named in the Times OCL 20/09/1915 under 2 Bn RSF wounded but the OCL is under "Further Lists" and may relate to Neuve Chapelle in March. 13707 Freeman, H was wounded on 11/03/1915 and k in a on 09/05/1915.

Michelle

Please could you re name it Partial Casualty Lists and delete the 1916. A lot of the RE lists I found were for 1917 and 1918. I started off looking for 1916 lists hoping to find my RE gf but extended it to look for Tunnellers for Alison and SB men for Terry.

Thanks

Brian,

I’m finding a few partial lists like this one. Luckily there are Canadians listed so I checked there service records and they record that these men were admitted to No. 6 General Hospital, Rouen on 15 March 1915. Here is Hutchurson’s details

The way these lists were compiled means that we can say that all the men listed were admitted to the same hospital on the same date
