Another new # for the RAF list and another for the short F column,  RAF 1F 3056. I believe.

Cheers,

TR

Thanks for that up-dated list JMB! After a long recovery period I am now almost back into the fray... Give me another 2-3 weeks until the new term has settled in! SOS, though - three x three hour classes each week; no peace for the not entirely good or wicked, but as I approach mid-70's it is beginning to tell!

JMB,

What seems to be a 'new' RAF P1907, is coming up for auction by Bosley and Marlows in the U.K. on the 21st Feb.  Although not shown in the two photos in the listing, the pommel is stated to be marked RAF.1.0984.   The bayonet is a Sanderson dated 1919, though the month is poorly stamped and indistinct.  The scabbarb throat also has the RAF stamp.

Mike.

Mike,

Thanks for spotting that new boy, good eyes!

Isn’t it funny that a seller lists a description that makes the bayonet special (at a special price), and then doesn’t show photos of that very same special marking? Irritating to the max…..

Regards,

JMB

JMB,

Believe it or not, some U.K. auction houses sometimes list bayonets and do not include a photo of any kind!

Another 'new' bayonet coming up for auction in the U.K.  A Sanderson with an unclear date, however the R.A.F. marking is shown and very clear as:- 1.9505.  The auction blurb states, 're-issued in WW11 to the Home Guard'.

Regards,

Mike.

Mike,

Thanks for yet another serial, perhaps we will hit the 150 mark by year’s end.

I will be sure to include it when I update the list at end of March.

Navydoc,

You boys are having too much fun downunder!

Two new serials in a day and one of them with brass grips, to boot.

I have seen only one other with brass grips, and it sits in my collection. It has a gloss-black painted pommel & cross guard and the locket & chape were both painted RAF-blue. I determined that it was most likely derived from a mid-East honour guard.

Regards,

JMB

Navydoc,

See below for the Article that Trajan and I (mostly Trajan) wrote on these RAF-marked bayos.

There are several marked 1 / S D / month year, that we had interpreted as Stores Depot.

It was a while ago but I was referring to the markings on the under side of the pommel- that is something that is not common?

kind regards

Navydoc,

Sorry, my misunderstanding.

We have so far recorded about 137 serials, and of those only one, IIRC, had any marking on the curved underside of the pommel. In my book that would be rated as rare.

If we were to eventually record, say 2-3 in 150 I would call it uncommon.

JMB

Navydoc,

Thanks for being bored at lunchtime……

1D 6641 and 1D 9219 are acceptable, but the other is a little too debatable and will have to play in the Second XI.

Will have to let JMB sort this lot out but it is interesting to see the early 1915 Lithgow bayonet with the RAF markings, a first I believe.

I think 1C 3527, 1D 2017 and 1E4950 have been listed already. Would have to give that last photo a miss, not even an outer 2 !!!.

Cheers,

TR

So that last 2 blury ones are the same bayonet edited, we can see "X950" and then I edited it so we can see the "4" - We get 4950 :)
