George Millar Posted 2 May Share Posted 2 May Tom, Just to complete the picture, I think this is possibly the death record for Michael's wife Margaret who died on the 19th December 1930 aged 57 years old (address given at Fitzwilliam Road, Wicklow). museumtom Posted 12 May Author Share Posted 12 May Evening all. a bit of a mystery here, this lad died in 1920 and buried in 1920 but discharged in 1916? I can find no age, or N.O.K for him, can you help please? James Naughton, 5083, R.I. Regiment. Have I even the right soldier? https://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=gbm%2fwo363-4%2f007276301%2f01063&parentid=gbm%2fwo363-4%2f7276301%2f96%2f1060 https://www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/416254/j-naughton/
PaulC78 Posted 12 May Share Posted 12 May The service record belongs to the man on CWGC, and gives his father's name as Patrick. He was age 19 on enlistment in 1894, which means he was born around 1875. He was age 46 when he died. The DC is available from ScotlandsPeople and would give you the names of both parents. If I have the right DC it doesn't give parents names. Mike Dies of TB 10/12/1920, that the right date? Mike

Standard info for a Scottish DC, but perhaps the names of his parents were not known by the person who registered his death? 1911 Census for 4 Barrack Hill has Ellen Naughton (widow, age 71) living with her daughter's family. Presumably this is his mother?
museumtom Posted 12 May Author Share Posted 12 May Thank you Paul and Skipman, this is coming together nicely, much appreciated. May I assume Barrack Hill is in Tipperary? Date of death is 10/12/1920 in the C.W.G.C.

PaulC78 Posted 12 May Share Posted 12 May (edited) 4 Barrack Hill, Limerick, from your image above. https://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Limerick/Limerick_No__4_Urban/Barrack_Hill/630269/ EDIT: Pension card gives his disability as Pulm TB, though it was not due to or aggravated by service. museumtom Posted 12 May Author Share Posted 12 May Bear with me Paul. If we assume Mary Naughton, widow is his mother living at 4 Barrack Hill, and her daughter Mary married a Scanlon- Mary gives her fathers name as Michael, not Patrick. So Ellen Naughton may not be his mother....unless we find his birth cert...hhhmmmm... let me see if we can.
museumtom Posted 12 May Author Share Posted 12 May Nope no James Naughton born 1874-1877 with fathers name Michael or Patrick. Anyhoo guys and gals I am delighted with what you found for which I am most grateful, thank you both. Onward!
George Millar Posted 12 May Share Posted 12 May Tom, Here's a James Naughton born on the 14th March 1875 in what looks like Carey's Road in Limerick, father listed as Patrick Naughton & mother Margaret Buick ??. not saying this is your man but have a look anyway. George Millar Posted 12 May Share Posted 12 May Tom, Forget my last comment. Just seen his Service record which lists his place of birth as Tipperary and not Limerick. Should go and get my eyes tested again. George
