If you look for him here:

Well done Grey!

That appears to be him "bei der Seeflieger-Staffel Chanak".

He is not listed in "Deckoffiziere der Deutschen Marine", although in fairness, they do say they "could not guarantee correctness".

Flugzeugobermaat

Steve,

just a thought. The rank of Flugzeugobermaat was utilized by non flying personnel other than aircraft mechanics . The ranks of the aircrew petty officers of the naval aviation career were:

Flugobermaat and Flugmaat.

For what it's worth a Flugobermaat Meuser is recorded as pilot in mission reports in a date range from 18 July 1916 to 30 June 1917. See example below. T1022-0809-00734JPEG.jpg.0afa8485a8dd82d74841cea09ebee52f.jpg

Peter Mühlens (* 12. Mai 1874 in Bonn; † 7. Juni 1943 in Hamburg) was quite important during his lifetime, author of standard literature. Unfortunately for others he was an unethical *******. Someone wrote a book about his work during WW1 (doctoral dissertation, I believe) :

Dr. Viktor Müller (note the correct spelling of the first name), born April 12, 1886, entered service April 1905, Marine-Stabsarzt March 22, 1914, on board Breslau from an unspecified date, killed when the cruiser was mined and sunk on January 20, 1918. German decoration at the time of death was indeed just the EK2.

It took some searching, but I finally found…

Heinrich Müller, born July 14, 1894, entered service August 1914. Not a commissioned or even a warrant officer while in theater.  Müller was on Breslau from October or November 1915 to September 1917, when he returns to Germany to attend the Engineer and Warrant officer School; he graduates as a Marine-Inenieurasprant (engineering warrant officer and commissioned officer candidate) on August 30, 1918 and was on a path to serve on submarines.

Out of service on February 29, 1920. Charakter of Leutnant (I) on February 2, 1920.

Kapitän zur See Erich von Müller was born in Berlin and attended school in Karlsruhe, passing his Abitur examinations. On relinquishing his appointment as the naval attaché at the Hague, he was appointed as a member of the German naval peace commission. The naval officers' association handbook of 1939 shows him in retirement and living in Berlin-Wannsee. Kapitän zur See von Müller died in Berlin on 31 January 1945 and is buried in Berlin-Wannsee.

Hi,

from 1933 to 1943  he was head of the famous Bernhard-Nocht-Instituts für Schiffs- und Tropenkrankheiten.  During this time he was busy finding /developing medical treatment against malaria and typhus fever. He intentionally infected psychiatric patients and prisoners of concentration-camps with these illnesses to see if he could then cure him. Needless to say that he caused much pain in vain.
