I assume both with hooks are conversions from Gras 1874 to Mannlicher Schoenauer M1903/14.

Very nice photos from Greek soldiers during the Minor Asia campaign. Look the fixed bayonets during attack.

Notice also and the evzonas (tsolias) trumpeter and the bayonets they wear.

That landscape looks very Central Anatolian to me. Could be the area around Sakarya battle - the so-called 'Salt desert' ends with a range of hills like that.

Thanks D! There were quite a few of these short ones around here a few years back but I seem to have bought them all...!!! Eight or so, only ywo qith original scabbards, but one is a naval example, rarest of the lot. Converted examples I have yet to see... As for the long ones, I am still looking...!!!

Dear Gents,

Today i present you something extremely rare.

An original Turkish bayonet Mauser M1890, shortened to 40mm blade and altered from Greek army to be used with Mannlicher Schoenauer rifles.

This speciment comes without the scabbard. On 4th photo you can see a bayonet with the originsl  iron scabbard.

On 5th photo an excellent photograph by P. Vasilopoulos from Greek bayonets.

Until today less than 10 bayonets have been recorded from this convertion. So and the great rarity.

Regsrds, D.

Nice bayonet, i assume i saw any on Gunboard some years ago, the scabbard is a replacement full metall type made for this type of bayonet, do You have measured the locking lenght of this bayonet? The period pictures are interesting as Gras 1880 visible, M03/14 by sitting soldier and various Mannlicher 03 and 03/14 by soldiers in parade presentation.

A very nice find and wonderful photographs! Thanks! On that last photo, I guess the man at the front is an officer, but why is his fustanella so short? A 'badge' of senior rank?

Julian,

The offices has the long type of fustanella. The soldiers have the short one.

Andy, you are correct. Iron scabbard is a replacement, an ersatz type we can say. Very rare, unfortunately i did not find this.

Regards, D.

P. S. Photograph is from the present my son gave me!!!
