Rosie55 Posted 8 November , 2007 Share Posted 8 November , 2007 These provide a wonderful glimpse of the real people who fought and were wounded. I have read various journals and diaries relating to this period but these are so much more personal and revealing. Thank you so much for sharing them and I personally would be happy to see as many as possible.
jainvince Posted 14 December , 2007 Author Share Posted 14 December , 2007 Its been sometime since the last entries were posted. However, I've now got permission to post the remainder but some remain unsuitable for posting because what was acceptable in the early 20th C is now frowned upon. The majority will be posted over the next few weeks. BernardP
jainvince Posted 15 December , 2007 Author Share Posted 15 December , 2007 Another 3 entries in the album. A picture and 2 texts, one a tad patriotic but it was written during WW1. BernardP

rghya Posted 22 December , 2007 Share Posted 22 December , 2007 This is a wonderful find and I commend you and your associates for their hard work. The images are fascinating and truly worth your efforts. I know from experience that scanning and uploading images can be a lengthy business but I can recommend the use of a ‘free’ image hosting service. Once sent to this site you need only insert the link here and people can browse at their leisure. Hope this helps. free image hosting
jainvince Posted 22 December , 2007 Author Share Posted 22 December , 2007 GY Thanks for the link info. Not sure now what to do! Started the post as a thank you to all of the pals who have helped my researches ( and may be asked to in future) thinking they would be interested in this fascinating insight to the soldiers of WW1. Its clearly been very popular. I am now over half way through the Albums and there are still pictures and verse/text to enjoy. As I have to enhance the images and then prepare for posting I normally do about 4 at a time as otherwise it becomes a very long job. Do I continue or not? Anyway for the time being here are 4 more. Enjoy BernardP 2 more

jainvince Posted 24 December , 2007 Author Share Posted 24 December , 2007 Another 4 extracts. I've included one from a Nurse at the hospital. She quotes from George Elliot but nonetheless expresses views of the time. As some of the entries are difficult to read even enlarged, happy to provide a transcript. jainvince Posted 4 January , 2008 Author Share Posted 4 January , 2008 Four more selections from the Album. A cartoon and a very pretty drawing entitled "Her majesty - Miss flapper Rochdale". The artist could be H Ray and the date could be 1917. Of the texts, one is probably from a nurse or hospital assistant but the sentiments are real enough. There are still some 20 entries to be posted and I will do this over the next few days. BernardP The Flapper
