Cheers for that Griffin, glad you are enjoying it, here is todays entry.

Sun 2nd April 1916.

Reveille 6am stables 6:30 grooming water and feed 7:30 finish very hot, flies plenty flies, orderly troop. Gave name in for camel corps.

Memo

Very hard week very little sleep and plenty of work.

Milward has finally put his name forward for the camel corps, how long before he gets on a camel. You will have to wait and see, :rolleyes:

Tue 4th April 1916.

Arrive camp 3.30 slept until 7 stables etc as usual. Rifle and bandolier inspection. Very hot.

Double entry today as I am off up Scotland to celebrate not only my birthday but to see the Celtic take a huge step closer to winning the league, fingers crossed.

Fri 7th April 1916.

Turned out 6am. Reveille as usual two sections field firing, did pretty well fired 20 rounds at target very interesting rifle. 1 bandolier inspection. Very hot.

Sat 8th April 1916.

Reveille and exercises as usual. Dismounted drill 9-10am. Final of sports. Saw camel race very interesting Had a parcel. On line guard (day)

I wonder what the very interesting rifle was that he mentions?

Sun 9th April 1916.

On Cossack post very hot, camel guard duty troops camel guard on return journey arrive back 6pm.

Memo.

Finish sports Sat night with concert (not bad) 8 troop did well.

Tue 11th April 1916.

Reveille 5am. Exercise as usual. Stables etc 7:15. Wrote to David and Ruth. On fatigue. Mounted piquet start 8pm.

Wed 12th April 1916.

Arrive in 5am. slept until 7 stables groom 6 finish. Very cloudy and windy rain and thunder storm at night had letter from home.

Thurs 13th April 1916.

Reveille as usual. Very dusty sandstorm orderly troop Cossack post returned 12 NF could not find their way.

Fri 14th April 1916.

Things as usual. Orders for leave read out. 4 days in Cairo or Alexandra, cost about 200 piastres.

Sat 15th April 1916.

Reveille and exercise as usual. Dismounted parade 9.30 very hot. was inoculated 5:30 sharp pain 5th time Saw a native wedding on camels.

Sun 16th April 1916.

Stayed in bed all day, had bad headache, flies maddening. Capt Stanley made mistake getting up but was politely told off.

Memo.

3 Natives had 30 strokes each for deserting the camel corps.

Exercise and reveille as usual. On line guard (day). Orderly troop. On night guard horse lines. 4 days leave starts (Cairo and Alex)

Mate,

I could find no Capt Stanley in the Staffordshire Yeomanry Regt, so I am unsure who he is.

Tue 18th April 1916.

Things as usual. Water fatigue filling water cart wrote home. Very windy Ordered 18 miniatures from B Johnson 3 weeks

Mate,

Sorry about Capt Stanley but B Johnson is easier,

Johnson Benjamin 50637 L/Cpl Stafford Yeo (2968) and Hussars

He went with boys to the Camel Corps and served in the same 10th Company 2Bn ICC.

Brilliant Steve, the I.C.C. must be so close to your heart its beating still. I am proud to have someone of your knowledge on the ICC adding to this thread along with everyone else who has had an input, keep it going pals.

Wed 19th April 1916.

Went out exercise. Did not do much as my foot was very sore bite or something.
