In From the Cold

Just a small point:-

RMLI = Royal Marines Light Infantry (plural for Marines).

It is an old chestnut, often mis-quoted & argued, but the Eastney Museum & RMHS agree the plural is correct.

Congratulations to Terry for his sterling efforts with these 40+ new commemorations. It was through his personal input that these cases were brought so speedily to acceptance. It makes you proud.

Are we talking Mr. JM with input from Mr. NY? Is this who you were thinking of Mr. JH?

I understand from Terry that the researcher wishes to preserve a cloak of anonymity, so I will speculate no further. Damn good job though.

Well done Terry and the unnamed others - great job

Rejoice ye not overly for the messengers, but for the occasion of the 48 Marines who hath finally join-ed their comrades in eternal recognition. Given the time, we would have all done likewise I'm sure.

Well done to all concerned. I am sure that much tramping of cemeteries has taken place.

Does anyone know if the CWGC then go and check that the men are buried where the researchers claim or whether they just add the information about the grave location on trust.

Ian

Ian

very little tramping of cemeteries has gone on - more done from the comfort of my own dining room - Izzy is responsible for any found in Liverpool - CGM dealt with Abney Park

Once I have collated all of the details received from the various cemetery authorities then I send them to the CWGC via Terry Denham. One of their inspectors then arranges to visit the cemetery concerned & inspects the grave. Then I receive notification from Terry of their acceptance or not - please note that all above are subject to CWGC approval

It turns out that this not really Ilford St Mary Churchyard, but the part of it that became Ilford Buckingham Road Cemetery known as Ilford Cemetery to CWGC. My thanks to CGM for her help in tracking him down
