Remembered Today:

Day trip to Ypres

Keith Kendall

Recommended Posts

 Brian 90 and I are off on a day trip to Ypres next Saturday 11.6.05

It will be my first trip (upteenth for him) and as far as I know the first family visit to my Gt Uncle Harry's grave at Haringhe - See Grandads half brother in "Soldiers" forum. Click here

We have planned a very full day but are open to photo requests.

We will definitely be visiting:

Haringhe cemetery and Hagle Dump cemetery

We are also aiming to visit:

Brandhoek, Essex Farm, Tyne Cot, Brooding Soldier, Sanctuary Wood, Hell Fire Corner and Menin Gate for "last post".

Thanks Paul

Will post a photo of the grave as it is now to go with the original I included with my very first post.

I have a feeling that actually visiting his grave and placing a wreath on it might be an emotional moment!!!

keith,

Have a fantastic time. If your strolling through Essex Farm then a pic of this grave would be welcome.

PERROT, J Private 15421 14/07/1916 oldstream Guards

II. Z. 7. ESSEX FARM CEMETERY

I have so many on my list to photograph though that if you dont have spare time to do this then I will not be worried, You seeing all you want in one day is more important. I was in Cuinchy and La Bassee for an afternoon and the time flys by very quickly.

Best regards

Leigh

Keith,

If you are in the vicintiy of Dochy Farm New British Cemetery, 7 km NE of Ypres a picture of the headstone of Rifleman W.E. Bosworthick, grave X.B.28 would be much appreciated.

Your names have been added to the growing list.

I'm no expert but the Brooding Soldier is a memorial to the 18,000 soldiers who withstood the first gas attack and is located at St Julian NE of Ypres

Hell fire coner is an area East of Ypres on the Menin Rd that was so named because it was under constant shell fire.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I've got it wrong

Your names added to the list Bill. Have you any idea where on the Menin Gate they are located. Having never visited before I don't know how they are listed, alphabetically, by Regt or what. I'm sure someone will know and hopefully point me in the right direction.
