not far away there is a military cemetery "Bertenacre".

That's where FERRIER, William,  59318, Canadian Engineers is buried isn't it?

yes, he also died in Eecke, but he is not buried there. There is no reason to believe that he died in Eecke

At Bertenacre Military Cemetery, Fletre.

FERRIER, William,  59318, Canadian Engineers

= Canadian Circumstances of Death Register at LAC  https://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/mass-digitized-archives/circumstances-death-registers/Pages/item.aspx?PageID=54123  - go to page 857 - again an accident, a dugout he was working on collapsed and buried him

Couldn't help looking back over some diaries.

108 Field Ambulance. 4/7/1918. Billeted in Eecke, area shelled during the night, some artillery horses killed in the field next to our transport.

2/2 South Midland FA. 17/9/17. Billeted in Eecke, sheet 27 Q.19.c.3.6. Actually some way out of Eecke

122 Field Coy. RE. 3/7/18. Improving billets in Eecke Q.25.b.7.2.

Some are saying At Eecke, while some say Near Eecke or Eecke area. Some are in billets and others in camps but the trend seems to be that most farms, barns and stores all around Eecke were used.

Pension card records at WFA/Fold3 record "Killed accidentally" - this the clearest card:

I'll have to do so tomorrow. I assume you have an Ancestry subscription?

If not I can do National Archive links for the whole pdf?

The 141 Army Troops Company Royal Engineers War Diary https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/6e7ea4feac7241d8b62ed116814af9d2 is silent on the accident / death of Sapper Mills but gives their location as Sheet 27.Q22.d.7.3 = BAILLEUL, BERTHEN, GODEWAERSVELDE-STEENVOORDE areas on 11 Sep 1918

I have absolutely no idea where that map reference or where those locations are relative to Eecke :-/ = A quick check of maps suggests those locations are all several kilometres from Eecke  :-/ A further look on TMapper http://www.tmapper.com gives that map reference 27.Q.22.d.7.3 a short distance [c.3 Km] east of the centre of Eecke and just north of Bertenacre - i.e. Just outside the Eecke commune I think.

is this this reference?

It's the same as I found on TMapper using that map reference - looked to me to be just east of the Eecke commune boundary [but I'm not a local resident!].

his is exactly the information I am looking for I was not aware of the deaths of soldiers at this location

I hope it helps, but ...

I believe the map reference was for the Company Headquarters [and then the other work sites are listed] - but I am exactly not sure we have confirmed there were any deaths there. ???

:-) M

Edit: Reading the WD more widely the Coy. HQ moved to that Sheet 27.Q.22.d.7.3 map ref on 9/7/18 and stayed there until 24/9/18 when it moved to [Sheet 27] R.35.c.5.9  In that period on 5/9/18 one officer and 25 OR moved to [Sheet 27] R.35.c.5.9 to work on a new camp.  TMapper would have the new camp on the western outskirts of Saint-Jans-Cappel.  No deaths, wounds or injuries recorded in the WD in that whole period.

It would appear Sapper Mills was killed accidentally during the part demolition of Mont Noir Chateau. His service record is available on FMP and contains witness accounts of his death, I've only skipped over them, related thread here.
