Thanks for the 'McMurchie' information Christine. There is a lot more than I expected. John {4} is a bit of a mystery. The Archway website is very interesting, and I have just read on another post that the records are being digitized. This is excellent news.

Alf McM

There is no NZ marriage for Archibald and Catherine McMurchie

No McMurchie children were born in NZ between 1880 and 1885

Neither Archibald nor Catherine of Mangaonoho or anywhere nearby appears in the 1893 electoral roll.

Hello Christine,

Thanks again for the additional information. John McMurchie, {Nos 2 and 4}, was born in 11 Argyle Street, Port Glasgow, Greenock, in the County of Renfrewshire, Scotland, on 14th February, 1883. His parents were Archibald McMurchie, riveter {journeyman} and Catherine Ross {or Rose}. They were married in Port Glasgow on 4th March, 1876. Archibald and his family appear in the 1881 {Scotland} census, but not that for 1891. Perhaps they emigrated to Australia first, between 1883 and 1891, and then to New Zealand.

Perhaps John's service records will explain what happened at Colon. Hopefully they will be digitized soon.

Regards,

Alf McM.

Hello Christine,

Iam researching a NZ ww1 soldier and I am having trouble finding some information on him. If you could find his war diaries, medal index cards, photos etc. That would be great. I already have his birthdate and death date and info on his parents.

His name is Francis Alexander Dunn, and he served in the 1st battalion otago regiment.

Thanks in advance,

Recently the St John's branch of the NZ society of Genealogists issued a CD of all the soldiers who joined the NZEF in WW1.

It is called New Zealand WW1 service personnel and reserves index.

It includes all the names in

the Nominal rolls,

the Reserve.

NZers who served in the AIF,

Military defaulters,

Native Reserve

NZers who served in the RNVR,

Nzers who served in Allied forces

- about 283,000 records

-almost the entire male population of NZ at the time

I would be willing to do lookups

Thats very good of you

Hi Christine,

I hope you can help. Looking for info on James Ramsey Scobie. Born in 1978 and was in the 2nd reserves (possibly C class) and he was a labourer. Any info would be appreciated.

*can't believe this thread has been going for so long. Thanks Christine.
