If a date window can be provided I can check most years to see where HLI were posted at a particular time.

Hi Frogsmile ....... Thanks for your message of support........Year range would be 1900-1920.

If you have time...... perhaps you could list any appearances of the H.L.I. BN's in India during these years...... and locations if you have them....... perhaps they were passing through??

Thanking you in advance for your time and energy with this.

DRUM ROLL....brbrbrbrbrbrbb.... I think I've found our man. :)

After perusing the Indian Army Lists from 1912 to 1922, I wrote a list of all the units that had been at Dalhousie, as follows.

Units at Dalhousie [Sanitarium]

From Indian Army Lists 1912-1922.

·         Lancashire Regt.  [Oct 1912]

·         2nd Liverpool Regt. HQ Wing. [Oct 1912, Jan 1913]

·         1st Manchester Regt. Detachment. [Oct 1912, Jan 1913, Apr 1913, Oct 1913, Apr 1914]

·         1st Connaught Rangers. Detachment. [Oct 1912, Jan 1913, Apr 1913, Apr 1914]

·         Royal Highlanders. [Jan 1913, Apr 1913, Oct 1913, Jan 1914, Apr 1914]

·         1st Lancashire Fusiliers. HQ Wing. Then Detachment. [Apr 1913, Oct 1913]

·         2nd Royal West Kent Regiment. HQ Wing. [Apr 1914, Oct 1914, Jan 1915]

·         Devon Regiment. [July 1915]

·         1/5th Devon Regiment. [Jan 1917]

·         23rd Rifle Brigade. [Jan 1917]

·         1/1 Kent Cyclists BN. [July 1917]

·         1/5th East Surrey Regiment. [Jan 1917]

·         South Wales Borderers – Brecknock BN. [July 1918, April 1919, July 1919]

·         1/25th London Regt. [Jan 1920]

·         Leinster Regiment. [April 1920]

·         Welch Regiment. [July 1921, Jan 1922] 1st BN??

I went back to my research folder and re-discovered these two photos. Which I had previously overlooked...but realised they had come with the Dalhousie Postcards and I should try and work out where they were.

I think that the photos are of Ali-Masjid / Khyber Pass. It became apparent that the soldier we were chasing most likely was involved in the 3rd Afghan War. [As was previously suggested.]

So I looked up my Cassidy Medal Rolls for Waziristan 1919 Clasps and started drilling down on those J. Cassidy's listed..... [where I could.]

There was one soldier who was noted as Being Royal Engineers, However he had 2 x MIC. Which gave the following combination of units.

11333 [11133] / 624258 / 1850412   PTE / SPR  John Cassidy.   2nd Liverpool Regt. Royal Engineers & Indian Telegraph Dept. [and the following claps to his IGS.]

Clasps Mahsud 1919-20 & Waziristan 1919-1921, and Waziristan 1921-24

Luckilly for me the MIC gave the BN number "2nd Liverpool Regt" who were at Dalhousie in Oct 1912 and Jan 1913.

The Indian Army List also noted that they were - HQ Wing.

He was awarded a 1914-15 Star Trio and was definately involved with the 3rd Afghan Wars.

There doesn't appear to be a Service Record for John Cassidy.... as I would like to confirm when he enlisted, just to be sure.

Cassidy doesn't appear to be in India for the 1911 Census.  Where were the 2nd Liverpool Regiment at this time??

If anyone can provide me with a rough month/year of enlistment?? That would be great......but I'm quietly confident that it's him.

Thanks again for all your leads & assistance & comments & suggestions with this one. It's greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Gaz
