Would it be someone from your neck of the woods ?

That's what I was thinking, having nothing else to go on.

Thank you but they are undeserved....Bob and NF did the work I just looked at an artice that was posted so I must pass the accolades to those who more deserve them

Roose is remembered high up on the right hand pier of the Thiepval Memorial as you look at it from the lawn in front. His name is mis-spelt, but I think I saw somewhere that it had been corrected. I would be surprised if this was the case but you never know.

Pete.

I just put famous FANYs into Google and was distracted by the results. Any way I do know who this is so will watch from the sidelines

Yes, not too difficult but I thought it was a most striking picture.

She was decorated by the French for her work on the Marne and the Chemin des Dames.

She survived the war, but sadly things didn't end well for her.

From the clues given I believe that is 'Mary Bushy Stubbs MM'?

So glad I did not go down Mr. IR 's route, I may have been sleeping in the shed for the next year at least:lol:

Well, it's Bushby, but close enough. :D

M.M. Croix de Geurre with Bronze Star.

Born in Durban South Africa, her family moved to Britain in 1914. She joined a voluntary aid detachment of St. John's Ambulance in 1915, tending to wounded men. In 1917 she joined the F.A.N.Y. serving on the French front as previously mentioned where she earned the Crois de Geurre with Bronze Star.

She married in 1919, and had three children. Very sadly, she died of cancer in 1937 at the age of 43.

There are some great stories tucked away as well you know Steve.

It makes it more real when you see a face, particularly a colourised picture. That really brings it to life for me.

I am not sure if @seaJane has it on her list of books to do with nursing?

I am sure if she sees this we will be informed. https://archive.org/details/withinyearafter00adle/page/n5/mode/2up
