I placed a bid on it at what I thought was a fairly respectible amount, nay, a figure if adjusted to 1916 dollars would have outfitted a regiment with helmets with enough left over for Wipers Times subscriptions for every man jack of them, a sum which, had my wife known would have jeopardized a marriage of 15 years. And I was outbid by a factor of two.

In all fairness it was a spectacular helmet and congratulations to the winning bidder. Sadly however it is a stark indicator that acquiring top shelf items for my collection is now beyond my financial means, or at the very least my comfort level. Though the price realized may seem a bargain in three or four years, for now it's punative.

I bought a similar helmet perhaps three years ago. Four piece cover with rust flooding through, private liner, chin strap though broken. Cover been on for years, liner complete and good condition. Under the cover affixed to the front of the helmet and clearly left its imprint on the cover is a cap badge.

Remains one of my best items but paid 1/2 of this ones price. Nevertheless have seen similar in last two to three years with main dealers at £1,000.

Another thing gone too high like tunics?

Good cammos with Regimentals now average £800 plus!

Who has the cash? Not like the countries finances!!!!
