Guest Posted 28 August , 2018 Share Posted 28 August , 2018 Hello Andrew, Thank you for showing interest in the photo of my Grandfather, George McDermott. I have several photos of him. He is one my most researched ancestors on my family tree. The photo is definitely him. He was 38 years old then. He also served in the Boer War with the Lancs Fusiliers and received "The Queen's South Africa medal and clasp" [which has not survived]. His daughter Charlotte [my Mum] told me stories of him and told me more than once that the photo was taken on his last home leave. She told me of a recruitment parade passing along the street when she was very young [probably aged 8] and she was skipping along on the pavement feeling very proud. She was 11 years old when he was killed.
