Admin Michelle Young Posted 5 October , 2014 Author Admin Share Posted 5 October , 2014 I know Ernie is remembered on the Holyport memorial near Maidenhead, his parents lived in Holyport before their marriage and subsequent emigration to Australia. Ernie was my Grans cousin. Her father and Ernies mother were siblings, part of a family of 17 children. Gran was 3 when Ernie died. Rollerbeadle Posted 5 October , 2014 Share Posted 5 October , 2014 That's it Michelle! Holyport is part of Bray Parish and many men on the memorial are from Holyport (including my Great Uncle.) There are 2 Memorials in the area with almost identical names on.... One on Holyport Green (shrine) and one in Bray Village (stone monument) Pics below Ernies name is on both. That's confirmation that we have the right man. Thank you Steve
Keith Iles Posted 8 October , 2014 Share Posted 8 October , 2014 Hi Michelle, took a few snaps of the War Memorial while i was down at Armadale this morning, if you need any further or close ups give me a shout. Just checked my shift roster for next year and i am off on ANZAC Day next April so i will attend the dawn service (first time in 3 years due to work) I try to attend them whenever i am off, so i will spare a special thought for Ernie for you, best regards Keith

Keith Iles Posted 7 October , 2017 Share Posted 7 October , 2017 Thanks Michelle very much appreciated just wish I'd discovered him while researching my paternal grand father before my trips to Belgium and France in 2010 and 2012, bit of a co-incidence that Ernest and William died on the same day and are both buried and commemorated in the same cemetery.
