WhiteWolf Posted 13 November , 2006 Share Posted 13 November , 2006 Ok As Some of you may have read in another thread my granddad married gran in France during in 1918. My question is how do I go about finding out what she was doing over there. All I have is her name Catherine Osborne Andy
Lorac Posted 13 November , 2006 Share Posted 13 November , 2006 I read your other thread with interest. I assume you are still awaiting the marriage certificate. Maybe her occupation will have been stated on the certificate which may give a clue. ie: nurse I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. WhiteWolf Posted 13 November , 2006 Author Share Posted 13 November , 2006 Hi Lorac I've had to send them an email as the online form requires an exact year, which I don't have Andy
John_Hartley Posted 13 November , 2006 Share Posted 13 November , 2006 Andy We must stop meeting like this. I reckon this must be her:- clickety click Now you need to PM Forum member Sue Light. She is the Rock Goddess of all Forum nursing things and may have come across Catherine. John
Lorac Posted 13 November , 2006 Share Posted 13 November , 2006 Hi Andy, I may be stating the obvious but have you done a search on www.findmypast.com (previously known as 1837.com) ? They have overseas marriages listed under the military section. Lorac

Lorac Lorac You keep stating the obvious (points up to post from John) But yes did this but the record states from 1914-1920 so no specific year. Awaiting reply from the GRO. royalredcross Posted 13 November , 2006 Share Posted 13 November , 2006 Catherine Hayes Osborne served as an Assistant Administrator with the QMAAC in France from 28 September 1917 to 7 November 1918. She was discharged on termination of engagement on 1 January 1919. She appears to have served in the Intelligence Section at St. Omer and Paris Plage. John_Hartley Posted 13 November , 2006 Share Posted 13 November , 2006 Andy About Sue Light - forget I spoke (just re-read the National Archives and realised neither were nurses). But it does seem you can download their service papers from the NA. here's the link: click Other than that, sit back and wait for the marriage cert. Lorac Posted 13 November , 2006 Share Posted 13 November , 2006 Okay, I'm possibly being really stupid here but could'nt both those MIC's belong to the same lady, one prior to marriage (no reg.number stated) ? Lorac (crawling back under her stone) That was my thought, it would have brilliant if both records had had the same service number. But that would have been far to much to ask and way to simple John I don't seem to be able to find either records on that last link you sent Andy
Jim Clay Posted 13 November , 2006 Share Posted 13 November , 2006 Andy The info you need to get the marriage cert from GRO is Army marriages within British lines 1914-1925, consulate Boulogne, page no. 26 see the index records (they cross ref OK) These were obtained from findmypast.com (previously 1837online.com) Jim
John_Hartley Posted 13 November , 2006 Share Posted 13 November , 2006 I don't seem to be able to find either records on that last link you sent Looks like they didnt survive the 1940s fire. Bu&&er! And, for the sake of the extra £3.50, I'd download both medal index cards - like wot the nod & wink from Lorac suggests. John

Yup thats what I found as well but when I tried to apply for the certificate on-line (I'm very careful with money and its cheaper ) the GRO form wants an exact year of the marriage. so I have emailed them to find out what I can do. Lorac Posted 13 November , 2006 Share Posted 13 November , 2006 Andy: I'm with John on that one, download them both. Just take the extra £3.50 out of the housekeeping/kids pocket money. I'll tapdance naked if they are not one and the same (just as soon as I learn how to tapdance) Jim, just purely out of interest. Do you not need a specific year to order that certificate. Just 'Army marriages within British lines 1914-1925, consulate Boulogne, page no. 26' is sufficient? I think thats whats been confusing poor Andy. Lorac (crawling yet again under her stone) Okay, ignore that last question
