Clasp and Rose

Looking through the 1914 medal role of the 2nd Monmouthsire Regiment, you find some men issued with clasp and rose and for others it only mentions clasp. Does anybody know the reason for this?

Many Thanks

Dave

Hi Dave,

It's my understanding that the clasp was worn with the medals themselves while the rose was to represent the bar when only the ribbons were worn.

It may just be a case of who entered the information some may have felt mentioning both bar and rose was redundant.

I would be surprised if there was an instance of just the Rose being mentioned as issued.

Take care,

Neil
