Hi Andy

Any mention of Percy Alexander Margetts? - possibly joined the Leeds Pals late 1914 before being commissioned, and being KIA 5th December 1915 whilst serving with the Lincolnshire regiment in Gallipoli. Family originally from Birstall.

Thanks

Dave

Hi Dave,

Your man Margetts is not in the Leeds Roll, but if I remember rightly he is on the Birstall Memorial.

Hi Andy

Thanks for trying. I'll follow up the Birstall lead. That's an impressive memory you've got!

Hi Dave,

The company I work for sent me up there for about 8 months so saw the Birstall memorial a few times.

Hi,

Are there any nominal rolls for the 1/8th West Yorks (Leeds Rifles) any where? I am looking for information on 2723 Pte William H Clark and 2834 L/Cpl Thomas Nettleton. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jon Clark

Quick stab in the dark - any mention of the Halifax Building Society? Members of staff serving etc?

Obviously this is Leeds and not Halifax, but you never know...

Please forgive my colonial ignorance...but are you referring to the following book for the above table of contents, viz.:

Scott, W.H. Leeds in the Great War 1914-1918 (Leeds: Leeds Libraries & Arts Committee, 1923)?

Thanks,

John

It appears to heve been reproduced on CD rom in a pdf format from

a company called your old books and maps, I think the cost is about £10. I did some work on the role of honour a few years back and created a database with about half of the names.

I am especially interested in the quite interesting sounding home front auxiliary support stuff such as the VADS, local hospitals, general hospitals, red cross, flag days etc.... How many pages are these and if you worked that extensively any way if there not too many to scan (presuming that you already have?!) such pages and send them to me?

Thanks,

John

Merry Christmas all!

Does this 1923 honour roll for Leeds or others that you might know of indicate clearly whether literally or by abbreviation whether the casualty suffered shell shock?

Thanks,

John
