No it is not and  do not dismiss a masons mark so lightly. Marks were not always left to identify the mason, but as a construction mark.

Could the stone have been reused from somewhere else?

Many older buildings were demolished and stripped of their assets, and quite common to see their stone reused locally so may well be an old masons mark.
