Thanks for that information Christine!

Where did this new information come from? Living in Canada, and knowing almost nothing about New Zealand's involvement in the Great War, can you suggest other areas of research for Middlemis?

Are his service papers available, and where would I find them?

Thanks very much in advance!!!!

David

Sorry Dave.

No "C.H.Williams"'s listed at all in either the "died due to enemy action" or "died due to events in NZ" sections.

Are they both definately casualties?

Dave.

The Middlemiss info comes off a recent CD; NZ WW1 Service Personnel and Reserves Index; which is basically a listing of all the men and women who left NZ to go overseas, from the embarkation rolls, plus all the reserves, and a few other things.

The info given can be quoted to the NZ Defence Force Archives people and they will send you a copy of the personal file of the person. This is free for one file per year for people in NZ but may cost for people from overseas.

The address is nzdf.personnelarchives@paradise.net.nz, but read their webpage first

Hi there,

I have a database of every NZ soldier died in WW1. It includes all the roll of honour details, CWGC detail, photo locations if known, personal paragraphs where appropriate and various other biographic detail. I have built it up over 15 years. Many of the entries have birth details, stating the nation in which the soldier was born. Any queries, let me know.

Hi Andy,

Our Adopt an Anzac group is having trouble finding any information for Mostyn POOLE 13/941. Mostyn was killed at Gallipoli 18 August 1915. There is a large gap in the POOLE files held at National Archives as it appears there are no POOLE files after a George POOLE. Somewhere during the transfer from Defence Archives to National Archives they have disappeared.

I looked in the Active Service Fatal Casualty Forms on Wednesday and there again there was only his name and killed in action.

I was lucky using the Fatal Casualty forms for Samuel Joseph POOLE 46243 as his forms fleshed him out nicely.

Do you have any information in your database regarding Mostyn POOLE please? It appears he was well known or his family was well known to the Horowhenua area as he is remembered on the Levin, Shannon and Moutoa Gates Memorials.

Thanking you.

Cheers, Diane
