Thanks for the explanation. I am a member of ScotlandsPeople and have been using its resources for family tree research.

Well that is all good then = to be honest, given the family of interest. I would have been surprised/disappointed if you were not.

[On the evidence emerging today ... I think I would likely be contacting CWGC about David ABERDEIN]

Good luck.

You don't say if you have them for David ABERDEIN but it may well be able to get

  • Will [potentially at ScotlandsPeople]

No sign of a soldier's will for David at ScotlandsPeople under either Aberdeen or Aberdein unfortunately.

Thank for looking - I was uncertain when I posted and I too, later, could not see anything :(

Now wondering what his RoSE has to say

Having Died of Wounds on 3 Oct 1915, it does not mean that his fatal injuries were sustained that day.

He could have been wounded in the previous (unknown) number of days.

Looking at the 2nd Bn Seaforths War Diary for Oct 1915, it notes that 3 Men were Wounded on the 2nd, and 1 Man Wounded on the 3rd.

I looked back into Sept 1915. This shows 3 Men Wounded on 20 Sep, and 1 Man Wounded on 22nd.

Without further details of the date he sustained his wounds, it might not be possible to determine the exact date.

I've attached my transcription of the 2 pages from the War Diary which show the above information.

Kindest Regards,

Tom.

This is where they were on those dates, on the British First Line.  This is a December 1915 trench map.  Hebuterne, Sheet 57D NE 3 & 57D NE 4 [parts of].  1:10,000  Second, Edition A 1915
Trenches corrected to 8 December 1915. Printed 8/12/1915.  Touvent Farm is shown at the centre left and on the French maps is is recorded as Toutvent Ferme.
