I think we know when Weston (re)enlisted. 13353 Griffiths was discharged unfit (wounds) in 1917 and has a Silver War Badge record which gives his attestation date as 31st August 1914, which suggests that's on or very near to the day Weston (re)enlisted. His entry is on a roll of South Wales Borderers Special Reserve men.

There's a similar story for the following soldier, with a surviving service record.

13354 Arthur William Skelton
Enlisted at London under SR terms of service on 28 Aug 1914, served in the South Wales Borderers. Transferred to 5th Battalion on 19 Oct 1916. Transferred to Labour Corps, 515085, on 14 May 1918. Transferred to Class Z on 19 Feb 1919.

Older soldiers were encouraged to reenlist under the supplemental Special Reserve terms of service announced by Army Order 295 dated 6 August 1914. They could enlist for 1 year or the duration of the war.

Aha - thanks very much, I didn't know that about AO259; it fits the picture of Weston's reenlistment very well - though discharged in 1908 he wasn't a Reservist in 1914.
