M1890 ottoman Posted 6 February Share Posted 6 February (edited) GWF Lads It seems that I have an 37x94mm naval marked round in my radar. Its priced around 45bucks without shipping. Is it reasonable? Thanks in advance. Ahmet Edited 6 February by M1890 ottoman
Alexander McLean Posted 6 February Share Posted 6 February Hello, Ahmet - Yes, in my opinion that price is quite reasonable for a 37mm naval round. Regards, Torrey

Oh, not at all these rounds were infact used extensively during the great war. Over here we also discuss about pre war topics and equipment dating back to the 1870/60. Chasemuseum Posted 8 February Share Posted 8 February Various types of these low velocity 37mm guns were used extensively during WW1, particularly by the various navies and in the theatres away from the Western Front.

It is my poor photography skills using the flash camera that has made the bayonets appear brighter than they actually are. Cheers, SS
M1890 ottoman Posted 9 February Author Share Posted 9 February Thankfully the tea kicked In SS. (its 2:50am) Here is my unsharpened wkc 1889 that has gone through months of work, speaking of which it had lost half of its fossilized scabbard leather. The IMA 98/05 frog was on for picture day. Forgot to mention there is no trace of serial numbers.
shippingsteel Posted 10 February Share Posted 10 February (edited) It came up pretty good. Yes a Weyersberg Kirschbaum M1887 dated 1306 = 1888. The scabbards have rarely survived very well. Shrunken leathers are the most usual complaint. It is unusual to have no serial numbers. All my Turkish bayonets are serial numbered across the guard in Arabic numbers. shippingsteel Posted 10 February Share Posted 10 February Wow, that Tughra looks mint.! They usually received a bit of wear being exposed up on the handle of the bayonet. (See my earlier photo) The M1887 rifle was an interesting one. It became obsolescent before it even finished production. The original 500,000 contract with the Ottomans was terminated at around the 220,000 mark, when they used a special clause to order the remaining rifles be taken in the new spec M1890 rifle. This meant there were large numbers of production "overruns" both rifles and bayonets, which Mauser were left lumped with. Your example without the serial numbers could well have been one of these. It is possible that these could have been sent to Turkey by Germany later in the war as "aid" and NOT used. As by then they just didn't have the soldier numbers to equip, and secondly also had large stocks of the more modern Gew88 and Gew98 arriving.
