Hallibag Posted 5 February Share Posted 5 February Does anyone recognize this shell case? It measures 120mm long and 76mm in diameter at the open end. On the base, it’s dated 1910, has a symbol made up of three circles, a letter “B” and the number “40”. I’m having no luck with research, with even the country of origin eluding me. Any help with identification would be appreciated!
shippingsteel Posted 5 February Share Posted 5 February (edited) The 3 circles is the logo for Friedrich Krupp AG who was the famous German manufacturer of artillery guns and cannons ... so most likely a German shell case. PS. 77mm being their standard Field Artillery calibre Cheers, SS Edited 5 February by shippingsteel

shippingsteel Posted 5 February Share Posted 5 February Yes that is a possibility. Apparently the case size was 77 X 118mm similar to yours. See this thread below. https://www.greatwarforum.org/topic/140789-german-shell-casing-77mm/ Cheers, SS

peregrinvs Posted 10 February Share Posted 10 February I’d have said that was a 7.5cm case with that style of primer.
Shell case collector Posted 30 March Share Posted 30 March Beautiful shell case with very rare head stamp. The B is for Berndorf, 40 is the Krupp shell case number. Number 40 is intended for Turkey or China. In this example I suspect Turkey. This is the first shell case with Krupp number 40 I have seen with this layout. Shell case length seems correct, should be 75x118R88.
