Trenches around Shrewsbury forest (Ypres)

Hello all, I'm doing research on my great great uncle and where he fought. His company was tasked with taking "lower star post" in Shrewsbury forest. On the trench map for the area I noticed a round trench, what was this for? Why is it so far Infront of the other trench?

This thread last year had some info about Lower Star Post. Are you interested in July/August 1917 because there are some maps in the 1915 WDs of 3 Div HQ and 27 Div HQ which also show Lower Star Post in Shrewsbury Forest

Thanks for the reply. My ancestor was part of the company that attacked this position on the first day of the 3rd battle of Ypres. I've found aerial photos of the forest which I'll attach as well, as well as located it on Google maps, but the woods cover anything visible now. I just haven't seen many trenches that are shaped like that. Perhaps it was for trench mortars?

Shane.
