It's still there, and yes, it is the last one. I couldn't get up to it, for obvious reasons, nor up on the ramparts / down into the bowels of the emplacement, but there is a good film (animation) of how the incredibly complex system worked and was managed, and I could see quite a lot of the fort in general. Terry_Reeves Posted 20 April , 2023 Share Posted 20 April , 2023 There is a complete 100 ton gun in Gibraltar at Napier of Magdala Battery, adjacent to Rosia Bay. The Malta gun is missing large parts of its components but nevertheless is worth visiting. TR

David26 Posted 25 April , 2023 Share Posted 25 April , 2023 Thank you @seaJane , that was extremely kind. I do hope the service went well - there are certainly a good number of very nice wreathes round the monument. David.
seaJane Posted 25 April , 2023 Author Share Posted 25 April , 2023 @David26 The President of Malta was delayed by heavy traffic, so the service started some 30 minutes adrift, but it did go well, and the marching of a couple of very junior Sea Cadets was exemplary. Local schoolchildren laid poppies on the ANZAC graves.
seaJane Posted 25 April , 2023 Author Share Posted 25 April , 2023 @Terry_Reeves inside the cot lift at Esplora (Bighi) this afternoon. They have replaced the old lift with a modern one down to the shore (not in commission at the moment) but some of the panelling and machinery forms part of the display in the "Life at Bighi" exhibition. Only an hour and three quarters' crossing and I reckon I will be too sleepy to give a damn. We cross the Straits of Messina still in the sleeper carriage (rail ferry). It's been amazing and we want to come back.
