Jasta72s Posted 31 March , 2023 Share Posted 31 March , 2023 Indeed, but German historian H W Neulen is equally uncommunicative if he reports the attack for 1 September. He wrote and quoted more lines about the attack in May. I have no doubt that 1 September is the correct date but the order was surely given on 31 August. It would make sense if the airplanes started in the last hours on 31 August which could explain the reported date in the official Turkish report. Here is an extract from HMS Raven's log book. 1 September 1916 Port Said 6.30am: Hostile aircraft dropped bomb exploding on forward well deck wounding Surgeon Probationer C Herington RNVR, George Garge [?], Syrian, M Fernandez, G Frangoulis, D Ghlias, D Eskovo, Moh' Ali & El Said Fahmy firemen 8.00am: Hoisted men in lighter to transfer to British hospital; similar weather Damaged by bomb explosion: 1 wooden derrick; steam pipe to No 1 port winch; cylinder of No 1 port winch; large hole in upper deck; 2 Sopwith seaplanes pm: C Herington Surgeon Probationer RNVR wounded, discharged to British hospital Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
