I have a 1914-15 star and War medal to Captain Gerald Davies.

the star is stamped 2. Lieut G Davies ASC, but the War Medal is stamped

Captain G Davies RFC

please explain why it's RFC and not RAF ? I've also seen some other RFC medals with no Regiment stated.....

He had active service in the RFC before the RAF was formed.

As RNCVR implies it is possible he did not serve abroad any longer when the RAF was formed in 1918 ?

He was attached to 52 Squadron 23/1/17 and was an Observer rather than Pilot. He returned home from 52 Squdn 15/8/17. (source CasualtyForm)

There's a good possible photo of your man recuperating at Hillington Hall, in the Tatler courtesy FindmyPast Newspapers. This man wears observers wings sand given the date it fits well. Perhaps your man had a serious health problem, his Service Record is held by national Archives but needs a visit to see it.

EDIT- this photo was subject of a thread here by @Madmeg

and @PRC found some info on him- see page 3 of that old thread. It confirms he was permanently unfit.

Ah just thinking about this Chap, perhaps he was invalided out after a spell in hospital and so as he did not serve in the RAF as you say, may be why there is no Victory medal  for the end of the war?

Doesn't his medal card show Victory Medal?
