TEW Posted 21 October , 2021 Share Posted 21 October , 2021 There's a 'Medical Arrangements' for 1st Army dated 22/9/1915 which says that wounded British Officers were to be distributed to eight different CCSs at six different locations. As he is buried in Merville I'd suggest he was evacuated to 54 (2nd London) CCS based in Merville as per the above orders. 54 CCS add some details for 25th Sept - patients began to arrive, mainly from Meerut Division. Then later on same day - this station took all British Officers. 9 officers were admitted for gas poisoning but as all 250 gas cases were evacuated he's not among them. 25th - 29th Sept they admitted 90 British Officers and evacuated 167 Officers to Base (includes those admitted before 25th) They note 5 officers died 25th - 29th Sept. Then give a total of 14 deaths for October without separating officers and men. Given they were able to evacuate 2883 to base Sept/Oct seems plausible his injuries were too serious to risk moving him or he was considered a moribund case. Sounds harsh but Ordinary Rank moribund cases were not evacuated from the battlefield. TEW
