I would also recommend The Gallipoli Diaries, it is made up of the letters and diary entries from the Aussies who fought there. There is some Pom-General bashing, and a lot of Pom-Soldier bashing (complaining about the poor quality of soldier that Britain managed to produce) but it is all from the mouths of those who were there so you can't complain that some bitter old sod got it wrong while writing an inaccurate book.
