Gspragge Posted 23 January , 2022 Author Share Posted 23 January , 2022 Well that is an excellent image, pretty clearly the tip is modified, one of the less radical forms in the 07 style. Much like my example dated 4/16. Thanks
4thGordons Posted 24 March , 2022 Share Posted 24 March , 2022 (edited) I just added another example of a "field modified point" 4/12 or 11/12 dated (not clear to me) , all Canadian markings as far as I can tell. Pics below: General overview Canadian stamp and 11/12 with 4 part of ain inspection or 11 4/12? Ross 1907 Mark Possible unit mark on pommel? (maybe just rack number) Blade overview (also C broad arrow, 10 on frog) Modified tip Scabbard Markings (not a good pic appears to be a Canadian mark plus R R C 1916 There is also a number T 17850 stamped on the entrance to the locket which I omitted to photograph. Gspragge Posted 24 March , 2022 Author Share Posted 24 March , 2022 Thanks, this is the "Sheared" anglular "official" blade alteration, only done in Canada, this was an older blunt bladed version recalled in Canada and altered. The markings indicate It went to the 66th Regiment Princess Louise Fusiliers in Halifax N.S. in Feb 1915. You might notice that it appears to have a rather thick somewhat straighter profiled crossguard , this style was short lived.
shippingsteel Posted 24 March , 2022 Share Posted 24 March , 2022 (edited) Chris, it is the Pattern 1911 and dated 4 / 12 with the Crown over 4 being the Inspection mark. Yes certainly too early to have been made like that, so later modification has been done too the blade. Unit details and rack numbers found on underside of pommel as indicated. Cheers, SS PS. It is the Mk.II scabbard and markings are as you described. Edited 24 March , 2022 by shippingsteel

That clarifies -- I had sort of worked that out by going back and looking at my others (the MkIIs seem to all be marked with 11 and the MkIs with 08) Chris
shippingsteel Posted 25 March , 2022 Share Posted 25 March , 2022 (edited) Yes there is the Pattern 1908, aka Ross Bayonet Mk.I And then the Pattern 1911, aka Ross Bayonet Mk.II Both nomenclatures are technically correct, as they changed the terminology as time went on, a bit like the SMLE rifle being a No.1 Cheers, SS PS. Also looks like an issue date underside of the pommel, maybe 2 . 15 Edited 25 March , 2022 by shippingsteel
