Thank you so much for all that information. So he was captured at Outtersteene after all and, as you say Gabelou, perhaps seized an opportunity to leave German service.

Jove23, what a sad story. Your 2nd Great Grandfather must have hoped he'd escaped war for good in America. Where Max was killed?
