new3.2 Posted 12 October , 2023 Share Posted 12 October , 2023 Minenwerfer: Great collection- I have two unfired projectiles and 1 that has been fired and has eight 18mm (?) holes drilled below the fuse ogive. I assume that it is a smoke shell. I also have a scope for it without any of the mounting hardware. Also have a wooden box that had dividers, and M W O, painted letters and a very partial paper. It is not the same pattern as any of yours. Thanks for posting that fine collection. new3.

The next show the holes open and a chemical vial next to the projectile. These are identified as smoke and chemical shells. Note the vial is about half the size of the common 77mm chemical vial seen on the market. These are rarely seen today. The third projectile is a chemical shell. The box is for the MMW & HMW (170mm & 240mm) fuze and lifting charges. This is the box you have? Thanks
new3.2 Posted 13 October , 2023 Share Posted 13 October , 2023 Minenwerfer- Thanks for the reply. I did not mention that I do have a MW in about the same condition w/the anti-armor handle. I keep the wheels in an unheated building to keep them from getting loose. My smoke shell is the duplicate of yours on the box with the gas bottle. I have that "Miller(?)" bottle w/stopper. My smoke is fired and lost its rotating when fired. It is fused. My box has the same keepers, but the milled slots in mine run parrel with the long side. I also have a boxed GW and a papered 08/15. Minenwerfer Posted 13 October , 2023 Share Posted 13 October , 2023 If running length wise, it probably for the Granatenwerfer. Photos would be helpful.
new3.2 Posted 13 October , 2023 Share Posted 13 October , 2023 Yes- I will have to make the divisions. I will see if Chris will help me with the photos. Thanks, Ken
new3.2 Posted 16 October , 2023 Share Posted 16 October , 2023 Hello MW- I do not know what I was thinking, I have this box marked as a GW ammunition crate. So the photos were provided by 4th Gor. (Chris). Would you have a tracing of the dividers pattern? new 3.2 Ken

Minenwerfer Posted 17 October , 2023 Share Posted 17 October , 2023 Hi Ken, I do and don't have have the divider traces. These boxes are slightly different sizes from one projectile pattern to another. Depending upon how many projectiles you have, you must divide the battens into two rows of five (four rows ten for signalwerfer rounds.) and locate each equally spaced. Then alternate holes large and small. Also cut the battens, length wise, first and then clamp them together before boring holes so the contact each other when stacked. I had to learn all this the hard way, lots of trial and error. I also collect Granatenwerfers and enclosure part of my collection for the group. If anyone needs a GW16 baseplate, I have one listed on GunBroker.com.
new3.2 Posted 19 October , 2023 Share Posted 19 October , 2023 Thank you MV for your information on the GW boxes. I imagine that these boxes were manufactured all over Germany, and the old collectors bane of "manufactures variation" is at work for these variations. I have seen no MV or GV items in the US for sale for quite a while. I do have that baseplate. Regards, Ken
