Remembered Today:

RFC 74 Squadron holster - what does 65 mean?

This is a question on behalf of an acquaintance. I myself could not answer his question at all, but I told him there sure are experts on the GWF. This Topic will prove (again) that I am right.  :-)

For years he has been in the possession of a Royal Flying Corps holster. It came from a small museum that closed down. It was not until he removed the webbing belt to which it was attached that

became visible.

74 Squadron ... But what does  65  stand for? Does it refer to the owner?

Only because I am a bit surprised that no one appears to know the answer, or have a suggestion. So I am giving the Topic a mild kick upwards to remind potential experts.  ;)

This is one for the equipment people really but I would imagine it meant that it was holster No.65 in their inventory.

Thanks, Pierssc.

So your opinion is that  65  does not refer to the owner.

If someone can confirm this, I'd be glad to hear.

Might it be worth shifting this, or re-posting, in the Equipment part of the Forum? That would attract the right sort of chap.

Steven and Pierssc,

Good idea! And that's what I will do right away.

Added 5 minutes later: And so I have posted it in "Equipment".

So if someone should be inclined to post in this topic here, please don't. Consider it as closed. And go to the Topic in Equipment:
