Aurel Sercu Posted 1 January , 2020 Share Posted 1 January , 2020 This is a question on behalf of an acquaintance. I myself could not answer his question at all, but I told him there sure are experts on the GWF. This Topic will prove (again) that I am right. :-) For years he has been in the possession of a Royal Flying Corps holster. It came from a small museum that closed down. It was not until he removed the webbing belt to which it was attached that RFC 65 74 S became visible. 74 Squadron ... But what does 65 stand for? Does it refer to the owner? Aurel Sercu Posted 6 January , 2020 Author Share Posted 6 January , 2020 Only because I am a bit surprised that no one appears to know the answer, or have a suggestion. So I am giving the Topic a mild kick upwards to remind potential experts. Aurel
pierssc Posted 6 January , 2020 Share Posted 6 January , 2020 This is one for the equipment people really but I would imagine it meant that it was holster No.65 in their inventory.
Aurel Sercu Posted 7 January , 2020 Author Share Posted 7 January , 2020 Thanks, Pierssc. So your opinion is that 65 does not refer to the owner. If someone can confirm this, I'd be glad to hear. Aurel
Steven Broomfield Posted 7 January , 2020 Share Posted 7 January , 2020 Might it be worth shifting this, or re-posting, in the Equipment part of the Forum? That would attract the right sort of chap.
Aurel Sercu Posted 7 January , 2020 Author Share Posted 7 January , 2020 (edited) Steven and Pierssc, Good idea! And that's what I will do right away. Aurel Added 5 minutes later: And so I have posted it in "Equipment". So if someone should be inclined to post in this topic here, please don't. Consider it as closed. And go to the Topic in Equipment: https://www.greatwarforum.org/topic/277943-rfc-74-squadron-holster-what-does-65-stand-for/ Edited 7 January , 2020 by Aurel Sercu Change of Forum section
