Remembered Today:

RFC 74 Squadron Holster - what does 65 stand for?

A while ago I started this topic in a Forum section that apparently was not the right one. Someone advised me to post my question in "Equipment". And hopefully this is a better idea.

This is a question on behalf of an acquaintance. I myself could not answer his question at all, but I told him there sure are experts on the GWF. This Topic will prove (again) that I am right.  :-)

For years he has been in the possession of a Royal Flying Corps holster. It came from a small museum that closed down. It was not until he removed the webbing belt to which it was attached that

became visible.

74 Squadron ... But what does  65  stand for? Does it refer to the owner?

Bob,

I won't say that your guess is as good as mine. For it could even be better.  :-) (I had not even thought of your guess ...)

I am waiting for someone to post : I have such a holster too, and that number definitely refers to the owner ...

But probably this will not happen ...   :-)
