ss002d6252 Posted 2 February , 2019 Share Posted 2 February , 2019 Regulation 133(5) of the Field Service Regulations Part2 states that any person with information on a death or injury will forward the information as soon as possible. Regulation 133(6) states that the AGs office at the base will verify all reports prior to notifying the war office. It doesn't state what level of verification is needed though. Regulation 136 states that an inquiry will be held within 6 months to verify the status of those missing and who can't be accounted for. A decision to assume death or not would be made at the inquiry based on the available evidence. Craig
Aurel Sercu Posted 2 February , 2019 Author Share Posted 2 February , 2019 Thanks, Craig. I am happy to learn more and more all the time. "What level of verification" ... Sure here it must have been very clear from the witness that Willie Smith had died. (That was soon after the order to withdraw from trench F31 towards Colne Valley. He was buried (5-6 weeks later approx. 40-50 metres south of F31.) Aurel
