3rd Wiltshire

Does anyone have any detailed history of the 3rd wilts my great uncle was transfered to the 3rd in November 14 after beining shot in the neck he was a lance Sargent looking at his record he rejoined the 1st in August 16. We have no idea on what he would have done and is able to fill this blank in his history it would be appreciated.

The 3rd Bn wasn't a deployable unit, it was a depot/training unit.  On mobilisation it moved from Devizes to Weymouth and then to Dorchester in April 1915.  It moved back to Weymouth in July 1915 and formed part of the Portland Garrison.  In 1917 it moved to Sittingbourne to become part of the Thames & Medway Garrison.

Thanks for the info. I understood that the battalion was in the U.K. At the time and the Weymouth part now explains his marriage. Would you happen to know if there is a diary for the garrison? Thanks
