I can't help thinking of Bunyan's words at the end of "Pilgrims Progress"

"And so he passed over.

And all the trumpets sounded for him on the other side"

I first attended the Gate in 1972, as a young man out on the 1970s version of the Grand Tour. Antoon was probably there. I took my first born there in 1983. He was probably there. I took all three kids there in 1987, and Antoon was probably there.

I returned in 2002 and the short, bespectabled, elderly Antoon was there. Again in 2012 and 2014 he was there. I went there again last Wednesday - and Antoon wasn't there. That's my adult lifetime. He was there for over 15,000 last posts!

My greatest respects and condolences to him, and my sincerest appreciation and thanks to all the other Flemish individuals - including Aurel and other Flemish GWF regulars for their unstinting work in keeping their home fires burning regarding the legacy of the Great War in Belgium.

Sirs- I raise my hat to you all.

I have only just found this post.

Very sad news -  I too have been to the Gate and many times seen and heard Antoon, God Bless you Sir, for your dedication and service.

RIP Antoon and thank you.
