FROGSMILE Posted 7 November , 2023 Share Posted 7 November , 2023 9 hours ago, Kimberley John Lindsay said: Dear Frogsmile, Judging on my research concerning an erstwhile Mekran Levy Corps officer (later the Last Resident in Waziristan. Lt-Col V. M. H. Cox, pictured), and the aforementioned G. A. Swift (who later achieved high rank in the IP), your assessment is spot-on. Swift, late Zhob Militia, was awarded an "End of Raj" KPM at the end of British rule. He had previously - as had Cox - been awarded both the 1935 Jubilee Medal and the 1937 Coronation Medal, for example. Kindest regards, Kim. I wonder if that was the same Cox who most famously gave his name etymologically to the ‘Cox’s Bazaar’?
Kimberley John Lindsay Posted 7 November , 2023 Author Share Posted 7 November , 2023 Dear All, and Zidane, Hmmm. So much for the 32 Lancers connection. Never mind: I feel that we have collectively managed to put Capt A. F. ("Tet") Reilly "On the Map", as it were. Thanks to all for the invaluable input. Kindest regards, Kim. Kimberley John Lindsay Posted 7 November , 2023 Author Share Posted 7 November , 2023 Dear Frogsmile, Lt-Col V. M. H. Cox was the son of a Doctor (Herbert W. V. Cox, ISO). The latter was Irish, and had a long and dedicated association with India. He served on a Hospital Ship during the Great War. Dr Herbert Cox is pictured with his wife and family (including the Grandparents), with the good-looking young Vernon sitting in front of Dad. V. M. H. Cox is also shown later as Resident in Waziristan (taking the salute at Razmak) in off-topic 1947. However, I did not detect any connection with "Cox's Bazaar". Kindest regards, Kim. ISO for Major H.
