Reporting the Great War in Cardiganshire

CeredigionArchives

Recommended Posts

Hello from Ceredigion Archives, the county record office for Ceredigion (formerly Cardiganshire or, in Welsh, Sir Aberteifi)

We would like to introduce our topical blog, Cardiganshire and the Great War (Sir Aberteifi a'r Rhyfel Mawr) to a wider audience.

Every week, we look through local newspapers of 100 years ago and through other sources in Ceredigion Archives for snippets of news about the war, especially those relating to our county. We are thus following the progress of the Great War week-by-week.

The results are posted on a specially created bilingual (Welsh/English) blog. We now invite you to follow it: https://ww1ceredigion.wordpress.com/

If you would like to know more about Ceredigion Archives, our collections, and our other social networking activities, please have a look here: http://www.archifdy-ceredigion.org.uk/socnet.php?lang=en

Best wishes,

Ania, on behalf of Ceredigion Archives

Week 84 of the Great War in Cardiganshire: https://ww1ceredigion.wordpress.com/2016/03/17/wythnosweek-84-10-16-mawrthmarch-1916/

Also, some good news for the project! Following a generous grant from the Wales at War/Cymru yn y Rhyfel project, we will soon have someone to help with the blog for four weeks. He or she will source and prepare images and news items for future blogs. This will enable Margaret, the project leader and a qualified teacher, to develop links with local schools. We are delighted.

More news soon!

And hello again- with another week of war reporting in Cardiganshire: https://ww1ceredigion.wordpress.com/2016/03/17/wythnosweek-85-17-23-mawrthmarch-1916/

(trying to catch up...)

Ania

PS. I cannot claim the credit for the blog itself other than the technical side of setting it up; Margaret is the project leader and does most of the research, scanning, and uploading. I then share it on here and on our social networking pages :)

It's 100 years and 86 weeks since the start of the Great War. Cardiganshire does its bit.
