Go to say the regular shape of much headgear would likely have been a real negative, in the Gallipoli theatre and elsewhere, hence the later adoption of helmet covers with loops and mesh for camouflage/addition of camouflage materials. Nowadays the Israli Defence Force seems to have found an extremely effective looking helmet cover with the Mitznefet, especially in a hard desert environment [though it looks like it could work elsewhere - but I wonder if it flops in the rain?] - and it seems to be worn in a particularly wide range of styles!
