Alan24 Posted 11 September , 2014 Share Posted 11 September , 2014 This extract from one of the Lost Gardens of Heligan Guide Books give a good account of the Naval Reserve mobilization. It says that Special trains were laid on picking up as they passed thro each town.
Keith_history_buff Posted 24 February Share Posted 24 February Some interesting content from elsewhere Quote A wide range of sources, from the Official History to Hansard to the memoirs of those concerned, tell us that mobilization of the Regular Army began on 5 August 1914. That same day saw the official 'embodiment' of the Territorial Force. None of these sources, however, tell us when the mobilization process ended. That is, was there a date when someone marked the calendar 'mobilization complete'? I'm not sure if there was an official date but the History of the Second Division records that by midnight on 8th-9th August all units had completed mobilization, there were "a few minor exceptions" however. The 5th Brigade war diary records - "8th August. Mobilization was completed by 7 pm with the exception of 4 officers & 11 men. The deficiency in men is accounted for by a sudden order received by the Connaught Rangers to bring No. 2 platoon Divl. Cyclists Co. up to war strength." The Regimental History of the Connaught Rangers records that mobilization was reported complete on 13th August, the ninth day since the order was received via https://www.greatwarforum.org/topic/192478-when-did-mobilization-officially-end/#comment-1882888 On 23/10/2018 at 14:41, Moonraker said: The Government ordered the mobilisation of the Expeditionary and Territorial Forces at 4pm on August 4. The following telegram was sent to all commands at 7.50pm on August 2, 1914: "All troops out for training at places other than their peace stations, whether Regulars, Special Reserve, OTC or Territorial, are to return to their peace stations forthwith, except troops employed during the precautionary period". I have a couple of A4 pages of notes about mobilization and Salisbury Plain[snip] Moonraker
