broches / badges on right breast

I have seen in some photos and as it happens in 'war horse ' film there were english troops and officers wearing a metal badge oblong a couple of inches long with a kings crown mounted above. what were they for / represent please ?

Hi Mike,

This is the Imperial Service Badge :thumbsup:

It represents the fact that the Territorial soldier wearing it has signed an obligation to serve overseas should this be required.

This is the badge:

ImperialService.jpg

Worn by members of the Territorial Force who signed the Imperial Service Declaration indicating their willingness to serve overseas if required. As members of the Territorial Force their conditions of service meant that they were committed to serving in the UK only unless specifically volunteering to serve overseas. It was worn in uniform over the right breast pocket.
