These just happen to be the men who subsequently served in the RND and were RND casualties. See Blumberg "Britain's Sea Soldiers" Chapter 33 for more details of this battalion. Fraxinus Posted 29 September , 2016 Share Posted 29 September , 2016 My grandfather served in the RMLI during the Easter uprising and got punched in the face while guarding the docks....this saved him on the western front when he had to have an abscess sorted out by the dentist and was sent out of the line, while away his machine gun team was hit by a shell! Michael Pegum Posted 2 October , 2016 Share Posted 2 October , 2016 (edited) The Weekly Irish Times 'Sinn Fein Rebellion Handbook of 1916' mentions two members of the R.M.L.I. as having been wounded: Pte. George Thomas Miller (S 1125), of Plymouth, as mentioned above, and Pte. Joshua Sugden (S 1295), also of Plymouth: 'Seriously wounded'. There is no mention in this book of any action in Co. Kerry, and it would be interesting if anyone has information about the incident at Sybil Point, which is on the Dingle peninsula in Kerry. Michael Pegum Posted 3 October , 2016 Share Posted 3 October , 2016 I see that there was a previous thread about this, which elicited the same quotation, but no other evidence. There is no mention of the incident itself in the Weekly Irish Times, and Sybil Head is not marked on the map, in that book, dealing with the landing of Sir Roger Casement and the arrival of the Aud, although it is not far away from Banna Strand, where Casement landed. Considering it would have been counted as a success by the Republican side, it is strange that the book 'Kerry's Fighting Story 1916-1921' has no mention of this incident, although the book goes into great detail about everything relating to this period in the county. The witness statements in the Bureau of Military History do not mention it, either, and Googling Sybil Head produces no mention, apart from the thread mentioned above, and confirmation that there was a signal station there. May 1st was two days after the surrender of the rebel leadership. I wonder if this really was an attack, or was it a case of 'friendly fire', which was hushed up?
